World Steel Association: Global Billet Reached 144.8 Million Tons in August

    In August 2024, global billet across 71 countries tracked by the World Steel Association was 144.8 million tons, representing a 6.5% year-on-year decline.

    Billet by Region

    In August 2024, Africa’s crude steel production was 1.9 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 7.2%; Asia and Oceania produced 107.1 million tons, down 8.0% year-on-year; the European Union (27 countries) produced 9.1 million tons, an increase of 2.2% year-on-year; other European countries produced 3.7 million tons, up 8.4%; the Middle East produced 3.4 million tons, a 3.2% decline year-on-year; North America produced 9 million tons, a decrease of 3.8% year-on-year; Russia, other CIS countries, and Ukraine produced 7 million tons, down 8.7%; South America produced 3.6 million tons, an increase of 0.8% year-on-year.

    • Russia (estimated): 5.8 million tons, down 11.5% year-on-year

    • South Korea: 5.5 million tons, down 2.2% year-on-year

    • Germany: 2.9 million tons, down 0.5% year-on-year

    • Turkey: 3.1 million tons, up 13.8% year-on-year

    • Brazil: 3 million tons, up 7.3% year-on-year

    • Iran: 1.4 million tons, down 9.9% year-on-year
